The AA Bean an Tí of the year for 2008 has been won by Bridie Herlihy of Berkeley Lodge, Adare, Co. Limerick. It was announced at a gala ceremony in the Guinness Gravity Bar in Dublin.  The ceremony was attended by leading figures in Irish Tourism, including Minister Martin Cullen.

The AA Bean an Tí Award is presented each year to a person who’s devotion to the role is so warm and genuine that the AA Inspectors   and the feedback from customers marks them out.

“Our inspectors have been very warm in their praise for Bridie Herlihy and the way she treats her guests at Berkeley Lodge.” Says AA Membership Director Dennis Fisk. “It’s a great example of a top quality Bed & Breakfast made much better by its marvellous Bean an Tí.”

At the award ceremony last night Dennis Fisk also said that Tourism is and remains a hugely important industry for Ireland. It’s also an area where the Irish talent for hospitality makes us stand out in the world.

“Irish Hotels and Guesthouses are a national asset. The quality of investment, both financial and in terms of personal commitment, is inspiring. Standards of cuisine have also improved enormously especially in recent years.
