Adare Woman is Bean an Tí of the Year
In 2009 Bridie Herlihy, proprietor of Berkeley Lodge won a prestigious national prize, the AA Bean an Tí Award.*
*The phrase 'Bean an Tí' literally translates from the Gaelic as 'woman of the house', albeit it confers the more modern notion of the woman he owns/manages a house of lodging and brings a uniquely Irish spirit of hospitality and professionalism to the role.
Award Ceremony in Guinness's in Dublin
The AA Bean an Tí for 2009 has been won by Bridie Herlihy of Berkeley Lodge, Adare, County Limerick. The ceremony was attended by leading figures in Irish Tourism, including Minister for Tourism, Martin Cullen.
The AA Bean an Tí Award is presented each year to a person whose devotion to the role is so warm and genuine that feedback from AA Inspectors and customers marks them out.
"Our inspectors have been very warm in their praise for Bridie Herlihy and the way she treats her guests at Berkeley Lodge", says AA Membership Director Dennis Fisk. "Its a great example of a quality Bed & Breakfast made much better by its marvellous Bean an Tí".
At the award ceremony last night, Dennis Fisk also said that tourism is and remains a hugely important industry for Ireland. It's also an area where the Irish talent for hospitality makes us stand out in the world.
"Irish hotels and guesthouses are a national asset. The quality of investment, both financial and in terms of personal commitment, is inspiring. Standards of cuisine have also improved enormously in recent years".
